How often should you change your air filters?
You have the options to change air filters monthly, 2-month, 3-month or custom., At minimum, air filters should be replaced every 3 months for air quality and HVAC system efficiency. Allergy or asthma sufferers, pets owners, living with young children or live in dusty heavy traffic areas, we suggest replacing filters every 1 to 2 months.
What MERV rating is best for your home and family?
MERV means Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value which was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers - ASHRAE.
Merv 8 (most popular with residential) protects against Average Dust, dust mites, pollen, dander and protects HVAC equipment.
Merv 11 protects against heavy dust, dust mites, pollen, dander, HVAC equipment, fine dust, auto emissions and smoke particles.
Merv 13 protects against heavy dust, dust mites, pollen, dander, HVAC equipment, fine dust, auto emissions, smoke particles, bacteria, sub pollen particles, attached viruses and pollution.
The higher the Merv value is the more efficient the filter will be in trapping airborne particles.
Important to know about higher merv rated filters
Its a fact that higher Merv rated filters remove more harmful airborne contaminates from your home or business. The higher the MERV rating, the denser the air filter material. However, a dense filter can make it harder for your furnace to push air through which can make your furnace blower work harder therefore decrease your systems efficiency and may cause unneccessary air conditioning problems in the summer and heating problems in the winter. All furnaces or HVAC systems are designed to have a calculated amount of airflow in order for the system to perform efficiently. Very important to check to see if your HVAC system can accommodate a Merv 13 pleated air filter. Chances are if you already have a Merv 13 filter installed and you haven't had a problem you are good.

What does indoor air quality mean?
Indoor air quality refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants.
What are common indoor pollutants?
Experts states that cigarette smoke is one of the most common indoor air pollutants. Pulmonologist Dr. Sumita Khatari says "The residual gas particles from cigarette smoke that settle pose health hazards, particularly in rooms with a lot of fabric or carpeting."
She goes on to say the risk are disproportionately high in children, who are more likely to be playing on the ground and in people with chronic heart and lung problems. "We all have heard of second hand smoke, this is called third hand smoke." I have listed several indoor pollutants in no particular order:
